A Message from Our Pastor

For more than 140 years, the membership of this congregation has sought to faithfully live out the call of God to be the Body of Christ in every new era.

Over these many generations, that high calling has found its expression in a multitude of bold and innovative ways.

Indeed, one of our historic distinctives, as a family of faith, has been our courageous trust in God to continue raising up new life within our Body in (and for) each new generation, demonstrating with clear conviction that in Jesus Christ there is never NOT a next.

Once again, Johns Creek Baptist finds herself poised to imagine and embrace a new and next era of life and faith through what we are calling “Faith2NEXT.”

Our Faith2NEXT campaign is a two-pronged effort to empower JCBC for a future with hope. Our goal is to raise 3.2 million dollars over the course of a three year period to accomplish two bold initiatives:

  1. The development of JCBC’s first multiple-venue worship experience.
  2. The complete and final payoff of JCBC’s remaining debt.

Multiple-Venue Worship Experience

The multiple-venue worship experience will enable JCBC to expand its current worship opportunities to reach a wider audience. Physical and technological enhancements to both our Sanctuary and Gymnasium will equip us with the capacity to offer BOTH our current “Traditional-Blended” service in the Sanctuary AND our new “Contemporary” service in the Gym simultaneously at 11:00 a.m. These state-of-the-art virtual teaching technologies will allow our entire congregation to be unified around one common message, while worshiping in the environment and style best suited to meet individual family needs. The cost for this portion of our Faith2NEXt campaign is 1.6 million dollars.

Complete and Final Payoff of JCBC’s Debt

In addition to providing multiple worship options to meet the growing needs of our area, the second initiative in our Faith2NEXT campaign is debt reduction. Currently, more than 1.2 million dollars of our 4.3 million dollar budget is devoted to debt reduction. Given the consistent and ambitious rate of our current debt reduction, one last successful campaign would potentially pay off our last remaining debt by the end of 2020, making it possible to experience something we have never known—a debt-free JCBC! Imagine if you will, the sudden access to 1.2 million extra dollars annually to spend on new initiatives, ministries and missions!

Frequently Asked Questions

In church conference on September 21, 2016, unanimous approval was given to move forward with a capital campaign to accomplish two bold initiatives:

  1. The development of JCBC’s first multiple-venue worship experience.
  2. The complete and final payoff of JCBC’s remaining debt.

Over the course of multiple Faith2Next Presentations, many great questions were raised a to the details of the campaign, on a number of fronts. While there were nearly 120 questions raised, these below attempt to capture the spirit and intent of most.

Q. What if we do not raise $3,200,000
A. Early indications are very positive. Since the church approved the project, church approval would be needed to find a solution. We need to make sure that does not happen.

Q. When will new staff be added?
A. The Worship Leader and Tech Director are budgeted to start May, 2017 with other musicians (band) funded to begin in July.

Q. How will we address “marketing”?
A. The commitment to market the multiple-venue worship experience was made when the project was approved. The 2017 operating budget did not include funding, but a reserve fund was created after 2016 results provided the opportunity.

Addressing the question of marketing has been a pastoral staff priority since mid- 2016. Contacts are being made with outside resources, a JCBC council will become a part of the process and expert advisors will be incorporated.

(Any newly submitted questions will be added to the bottom of the list.)

Q. What is the capital campaign goal?
A. $3,200,000 (To fund project costs as well as pay off remaining debt)

Q. Is the campaign over and above our current giving?
A. Yes, It’s a three-year commitment over and above what you are already doing.

Q. What is the timeline for the capital campaign?
A. Preparation has been ongoing since church approval on September 21st. January was focused on providing Information, February will involve Leadership Commitments and March will host Church-wide Dinner Events for the congregation-at-large. In mid-March, commitment cards will be mailed to all members who have not yet made their decision known. The giving period starts in April, 2017 and will conclude March, 2020.

Q. Will there be an event that brings commitments to closure?
A. Yes, there will be a “commitment Sunday” that is presently planned for March 19th for the final public encouragement to “make a decision and let us know.”

Q. When would construction start and how long will it take for completion?
A. The construction agreement will be signed in April, 2017 and construction will take place in April, May, June and July allowing rehearsal time before the first service in August, 2017.

Q. Who is our contractor for the project?
A. Clark (a worship design & technology company). Their impressive client list includes North Point Community Church, Willow Creek Community Church, The Rock Church, San Diego, CA, Church of the Highlands, Birmingham, AL and many other select clients.

Q. Will there be a functioning gym?
A. Yes. The Family Life Center will continue to serve as a multi-use facility, including but not limited to gymnasium activities.

Q. What about UPWARD, VBS, Summer Camps and other gym activities during construction?
A. We are working through each event for alternate locations or with the contractor during April, May, June and July to move the project forward.

Q. Can we designate to a special interest part of the project?
A. No, campaign approval was based on a two-fold project that would address the present, but also better position the church for the future when we are debt free. We feel a unified approach has greater appeal.

Q. How much will we need to borrow?
A. The Treasurer and Executive Director of Operations have been authorized to negotiate the terms and conditions for borrowing funds up to an amount of $1,500,000. The amount borrowed will be reduced by any early receipt of funds, prior to borrowing.

Q. What is our debt balance?
A. $5,675,000 (January 31, 2017)

Q. What would happen with our debt balance if we were not doing a capital campaign?
A. If we continued present schedule ($1,200,000 annually), the debt would be paid off by December, 2021.

Q. What if we do not raise $3,200,000
A. Early indications are very positive. Since the church approved the project, church approval would be needed to find a solution. We need to make sure that does not happen.
